The honest FAQ

The questions agents actually ask

Asked bluntly, answered straight. If your question isn't here, ask it — you'll get an answer, not a pitch.

Is this a pyramid scheme?

Fair question — ask it out loud. Here's the straight answer: income at eXp comes from selling real estate, not from recruiting. Revenue share is paid out of the company's own 20% split — never out of another agent's commission — and only when sponsored agents actually close transactions. Sponsor a hundred agents who never sell a home and you earn exactly $0 from them.

eXp is a licensed brokerage and a publicly traded company. There's no inventory to buy, no sign-up commissions, and a $149 start-up cost. People said the same things about profit-sharing at Keller Williams a generation ago. If anyone gives you a hand-wavy answer to this question, keep asking — Sean will happily walk you through exactly how the money flows.

Do I lose my brand, my database, or my identity?

No. Your branding and logo, your database and CRM, your cell number and email, your social media, your vendors, and your headshot all stay yours — with a “brokered by” line for compliance. You still sell real estate, still work your sphere, still set your hours. The basics don't change; your position does.

Isn't a virtual brokerage isolating?

It can be — that's the most honest criticism of cloud brokerages, and it's exactly why The AGENT Connection exists. You get the cloud model's economics plus a real local community: live local meetups, in-person mentorship from Sean, and agents in your own market who answer the phone. The support layer around you is the difference between joining a model and joining an organization.

How does it compare to the other new brokerages?

There are other cloud-model brokerages, and some advertise their own splits and caps. We won't trash-talk them — the honest answer is that the right choice depends on your production, the stock and revenue share programs, and what the organization around you actually provides. Bring your real numbers and Sean will run them side by side with you — including the scenario where staying put is your best move. If the math doesn't favor a move, he'll say so.

What does it actually cost?

In the cloud model example from The Big REveal: $149 one-time start-up, $85/month including the tech stack (CRM, Canva, SkySlope, Forewarn), small per-transaction fees, and an 80/20 split that caps at $16,000 — after which you keep 100% for the rest of your anniversary year. No desk fees, no royalty fees, no franchise fees. Figures last verified August 2026.

I'm brand new. Is this the right place to start?

Maybe — that depends on you. What we'd argue strongly: your first position decides more about your career than your work ethic does, because the median agent earns $8,100 in their first two years and $78,900 after sixteen last year and most of them worked plenty hard. Start where there's a real mentor, real training, real leads, and costs you can survive while you build. Here's the new-agent picture.

What's in it for Sean?

Transparency you'll rarely get from a recruiter: when an agent names Sean as sponsor and produces, eXp pays Sean from its share — never from yours. That's the model's design, and it's why the support is real: your success is literally his upside. Nothing is hidden here, and you're welcome to ask him about it directly.
